Extra Curricular

Enriching the curriculum

We give our children the chance to experience a range of extra curricular activities and visits to support their education.

Our extra curricular classes include:

  • Football
  • Rugby
  • Archery
  • Kinball
  • Street Dance
  • Mathletics Club
  • My BB Club

In addition to these activities we have clubs for:

  • Music – keyboard, string, wind instrument lessons (usually at lunchtime)
  • Brass (weekly lessons for all Year 4 children with instruments provided)
  • Choir

We’ll always send letters home with your child to explain what’s happening and when. You can also use your child’s school planner to ask questions or find out about individual class or year group events.

Every year group gets the opportunities to visit local museums, churches, theatres and listen to concerts to enrich the work they to do class. These visits usually take place during school hours, and where there may be a cost, parents and carers are invited to contribute.

Residential Trips

For children in Years 4, 5 and 6 we run residential trips to Robinwood.

Year 4 Robinwood Trip – On 20th April 2017, Mrs Irwin, Miss Skitt and Mrs O’Toole took 48 children on a residential trip to Robinwood Activity Centre in Todmorden.

The children had the opportunity to participate in the following activities: Archery, Caving, Climbing, Crate Challenges Night Line and the Piranha Pool.

The centre develops children as individuals and as members of a team, with safety, enjoyment and learning as their priorities.

France Trip – On 23rd February 2016, 37 Year 5 pupils and 5 staff set off in the early hours of the morning to spend a week in France. This trip helped the children gain experience of the French culture.

The two main highlights of the trip was the Paris and a tour of the Eiffel Tower visit. The children enjoyed the spectacular views of the  French capital from the tower’s second level, even though some had to overcome a fear of heights to make the ascent.

The following day, pupils revelled in a trip to Disney Land and enjoyed the many attractions whilst mingling with their favourite cartoon characters  .

The children also had the opportunity to visit the Science Museum and the Chocolate Factory during this trip.

Mrs Clarke commented, “The trip gave all the children the opportunity to broaden their experiences beyond the classroom. It was a pleasure to see them grow in confidence as the week developed, returning with memories that will last a lifetime. Such visits help to provide our pupils with a broad education that encourages independence and a love of learning.”

Year 6 Robinwood Trip – On 6th June 2016,  Mr Greaves, Miss Ramsdale and Mrs Ashworth took 29 Year 6 children to Robinwood, Todmorden on a residential trip.

The children had the opportunity to participate in the following activities: Archery, Caving, Climbing, Crate & Alien Challenges, Night Line, Bouldering and the Piranha Pool.

The centre develops children as individuals and as members of a team, with safety, enjoyment and learning as their priorities.

Visitors To The School

In addition to trips the children make, we also invite visitors into the school. We’ve won the Artsmark Silver Award in recognition for the work we do with artists in residence, mobile music and theatre groups, Viking and Tudor groups, travelling poets and with Wigan’s Performing Arts and Music Service.
