PE

Why is Physical Education important?

A high quality PE curriculum motivates children to expand their skills and enables them to understand the positive benefits of exercise. Improving children’s motor skills, such as increasing muscle strength and bone density, gives children the confidence to make exercise a regular habit outside of school and as they grow older. Physical education plays an important role in encouraging children to lead a healthy, active lifestyle, which has a positive impact on their academic performance, combats obesity and reduces the risk of children developing chronic illnesses in later life. Alongside the physical benefits of PE, there are many benefits to children’s social, emotional and mental well-being. Building relationships and communicating with others are a key part the physical education curriculum. Children’s self-esteem and character development is positively impacted upon through praise, teamwork and communication with peers, teachers and others within the school community. Each of these allows children to build enough confidence to challenge themselves further towards reaching their full potential.
