Leigh CE Primary School

PSHE

Why is PSHE important?

PSHE is essential in helping our pupils to develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to thrive as individuals, family members and members of society. It helps children and young people to achieve their potential by supporting their wellbeing and tackling issues that can affect their ability to learn, such as anxiety and unhealthy relationships. PSHE education also helps pupils to develop skills and aptitudes — like teamwork, communication, and resilience — that are crucial to navigating the challenges and opportunities of the modern world, and are increasingly valued by employers. From making responsible decisions about their health and life choices to succeeding in their first job, PSHE education helps pupils to manage many of the most critical opportunities, challenges and responsibilities they will face growing up.

Careers that the study of PSHE supports include:

  • Teacher
  • Teaching Assistant
  • Mental Health Practitioner
  • Counsellor
  • Politician
  • Emergency Services
  • Health visitor
  • Social worker
  • Prison Officer
  • Solicitor
  • Care assistant
  • Child minder

At The Wings’ CE Trust, we aim to:

  • enable pupils to develop the essential skills to manage different influences and pressures in their lives and to make safe and informed choices.
  • develop children’s knowledge of staying safe, in all aspects of their life, including having awareness of online safety
  • develop children’s knowledge and understanding of staying healthy throughout their life and making positive decisions as they grow and change
  • enable children with skills to cope with their feelings and emotions, and know how to ask for help when needed.
  • enable children to be responsible people, in their day to day life, including financial stability and the world of work
  • enable children to develop their full potential, with confidence and independence.
